SWMSC Membership

If a skater desires one-on-one instruction with a SWMSC coach, has already identified the coach with whom he or she would like to work and verified that the coach is accepting new students, he or she is welcome to join as a Full Club Member by completing a SWMSC Membership application.

If a skater desires one-on-one instruction but hasn’t yet identified a specific coach with whom he or she would like to work, an Introductory Membership is necessary.

Please note that skaters joining the club in an Introductory or Full Club capacity, while at a Basic Skills level 3 or below, may only be on the ice while under direct supervision of a coach and will have no unsupervised practice time.

Introductory Membership (Click here for membership details and application)

Necessary steps for beginning an Introductory Membership

1.      Obtain an Introductory Membership application form from the club website.

2.      Contact those coaches who are accepting new students, and set up lessons with a few different ones so that a good working relationship with one of them may be established.  Coach availability may be obtained from the club website.  (It is best to set up multiple lessons prior to beginning the actual membership.)

3.      On the first day that the skater has a scheduled lesson with a club coach, bring the completed Introductory Membership application form and fee to the ice monitor.  The monitor will give the skater an Introductory Membership ice punch card, which he or she will present to the monitor to be punched each time that the skater is on the ice for lessons.  Coaching fees are to be paid directly to the coaches.

4.      If the skater has decided that he or she would like to become a Full Club Member, either during the Introductory Membership, if a coach has already been chosen, or upon completion of the 8 ice card punches, a club registration form may be obtained from the website.  Complete the form and send it, along with the appropriate fee, to the club membership chair’s address, which is specified on the form.  (Please indicate whether the skater is, or has been a member of another skating club.)

5.      The membership chair will then send the prospective skater’s name to the Board of Directors for approval as a new club skater.  The skater will then be notified as soon as he or she is approved as a Full Club Member.  Once approved, a skater may then purchase ice punch cards from the ice monitor and enjoy lessons with their new coach and the SWMSC!

Questions about the Introductory Membership may be directed to any of our club coaches or to the club email address (swmichskatingclub@yahoo.com).

Reciprocal Membership with Kalamazoo Figure Skating Club

SWMSC and KFSC have a reciprocal agreement that allows skaters from SWMSC to skate on KFSC ice without the need for an associate membership at KFSC.  Prior to skating on KSFC ice, the reciprocal membership application, consent form and liability waiver must be completed and returned to KSFC.
